A Touching Story

Mari Adkins left a comment on my blog post "Present Day..and the fight has only begun" with a link to her story regarding the loss of her uncle entitled "thirty years ago this morning". The story is a touching reminder of how each fatality in the mining industry is so much more than just a statistic, a news report, or a "fatalgram" on the Mine Safety and Health Administration's Website.

How many more men and woman have perished in the mining industry either from poor safety practices or profiteering company officials? How many families still mourn the loss of their loved ones? Again one has to ask, is coal our friend as much as we are claiming to be a friend of it?

Thank you for writing this Mari, my heart goes out to you and your family.

  1. I couldn't agree more, there should be enough measures to safeguard not only the lives but the livelihood of miners because mining industries are reaping so much millions here that are left undistributed to those who risk their lives.
